You can select an interlocutor either from the list, which displays the friends with whom you had the last active correspondence, or from the list of all your other subscribers (most likely, Instagram also sorts them according to a certain algorithm, since they are not in alphabetical order - by time of adding, number of mutual likes and views, and so on).

You can also enter the name or nickname of your recipient in the "To" search field - the keyboard language does not matter. Instagram will figure out that Nadia and Nadya are the same person. Even if your friend’s nickname is extra complex, for example, “Ilovebutterflies,” but “Nadia” is indicated in her name, then Instagram will find her by name.

Group chat

Please note that you can select not just one person, but several to send a message - this way you will create a group chat. The maximum number of participants in such a chat is 15 people, since it is impossible to write “Direct” on Instagram to more people. This will be considered spam by the application.

Sending a story via PM

Recently, Instagram has made it possible to share “stories” - disappearing photos and videos to which you can add short text or funny stickers. Instagram will also remind you about this functionality even before choosing a person to talk to.

Above the list of conversations you will see the message “Tap the camera to send a disappearing photo or video.” In the left corner, click on the camera icon and activate the story creation mode. When everything is ready, click the arrow in the lower right corner of the screen.

In the lower left corner there is an icon in the form of a picture. From there, you can go to the gallery of not only Instagram, but your entire device and select the picture or video you want to send. Please note that you cannot send long videos this way. However, you can first shorten it using the built-in video editor, but we'll talk about that a little later. Click on the desired file and it increases in scale, and a button in the form of an upward arrow is displayed at the top. After you have looked at all the details of the photo and are sure that this is exactly what you want to send, click on the button. The photo will appear in the dialog.

In the lower right corner of the dialogue we see a heart-shaped icon - this is a way to like directly in the correspondence. You can also like a photo or video sent to you, however, Instagram itself will kindly tell you this with a caption under them.

In the upper right corner you see the English letter i in a circle. By clicking on it, you can look into the settings of this particular dialog. The first option is “Disable notifications”. This feature is usually used when you need to mute notifications from a chat in which there is too much active correspondence that distracts you from important matters. However, it is rare that users learn how to write “Direct” on Instagram specifically for group correspondence. Typically, chats are created in instant messengers that are more convenient for these purposes. But still, the presence of a function to turn off notifications is a big plus.

But how to write “Direct” on Instagram not from a phone, but from a computer is still a difficult task.

Probably the only way to use this site on your personal computer is to download the BlueStacks Android emulator on it. This is a program that appears on your computer desktop like a smartphone screen. And through it you can work with those applications that do not have a PC version. Minus - BlueStacks often works very slowly and slows down the entire system. Regardless of what method of accessing Direct was chosen (the official application for a PC running Windows 8 or higher or a third-party BlueStacks App Player simulator), you can read and send messages to Instagram via a computer only according to one scenario:

• Click on the airplane icon - this is the entrance to personal dialogues (the icon is located at the top of the interface).

• When you open Direct, you will see all the started dialogues and the “New dialogue” button.
• Choose what exactly you want to send to the other user in the chat: video, photo, text.
• Like, block unwanted interlocutors and delete dialogues without the possibility of their further restoration, as in the mobile version.

In addition to the advantages of the mobile version, there are the same disadvantages. For example, the maximum number of letters that can be sent to Direct is limited to no more than 60 per day. Once this threshold is reached, the ability to write a message on Instagram via a computer is blocked, but the read function will always be available.

You can also use the one listed in the Play Market. If you don’t have one, then you can create a mailbox through any browser.

Next, do the following:

• Enter Play Market in the search bar of your Internet browser on your PC.
• Then you launch it and, if necessary, register in it, specifying the same email as for BlueStacks App Player.
• Next, find and download Instagram.
• Log in to the application and you can start communicating with other users.

After this, all functions will be available on the monitor as when using the mobile version, including communication via Direct.

If you have Windows 8 or higher on your PC, then you do not need to install any additional programs to send messages.

If you go to Instagram Direct for the first time, the screen will be blank.

Click on the plus sign in the upper right corner, select users through the search and start communicating.

There is another way to deceive Instagram and perform many actions on it from a computer, such as uploading photos or chatting, writing comments, liking, and so on.

1. Open the Google Chrome browser;
2. Log in to Instagram;
3. Press the key – F12;
4. Then, the key combination is “Ctrl+Shift+M”;
5. Refresh the page.
